We’re proud to have created a revolutionary solution for smaller yachts to meet the challenges of the IMO Tier III requirements that will come into force from 2021. The only system of its kind on the market; our system has been designed to fit into the most compact of engine rooms, solving a problem that has been looming on the horizon for yacht designers and naval architects.
The IMO Tier III regulations regarding nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions have already taken effect for all large vessels with an engine output of 130 kW or more, and which had their keel-laying on or after 1 January 2016. The regulations specify that NOx emissions must be, at most, around 70% lower than the maximum under the Tier II regulations.
From 2021 these same regulations will come into force for all yachts above 24 metres, no matter their volume. Tuning the engine is not sufficient to reduce emissions and smaller yachts create a particular challenge as smaller boats are subject to constraints of size and space.
This means a combination of technologies must be deployed instead. Where large yachts have used after-treatment units which are heavy and bulky, the smaller engine rooms on yachts under 500GT means another solution needed to be found.
MarQuip has developed the only custom solution in the industry for small yachts and the most compact system for yachts under 500GT or 50 metres. It is completely developed and ready for installation and, with MarQuip’s ISO14001:2015 certification, yacht owners can be assured it meets the highest standards of environmental management.
