Hosted by trade association Netherlands Maritime Technology (NMT), the annual ‘Zeildag’ sailing event is a much-loved occasion among all Dutch marine companies where staff have a passion for the water in their spare time too. That’s certainly the case at MarQuip and our team for the four races on this special day at the end of June were general manager Jeroen van der Matten, project manager John Maaskant and project engineers Sjoerd Döppen and Wiebe Voorneveld.
Having come second in the Silver Class last year, Captain Jeroen and his merry men were pleased to qualify for the Gold Class after the first two morning races on the Kagerplassen lakes, north-east of Leiden. After two fiercely competitive races in the afternoon MarQuip came out as overall winner. “We had a better boat this year and had also trained hard to makes a good start to each race,” said the delighted skipper Jeroen. “Just as in business, if you get ahead from the outset you’re always likely to end up among the winners!”
