Upgrading the efficiency of ICE engines on superyachts

MarQuip is pleased to welcome Koen Frankena who has joined our crew to follow a Mechanical Engineering graduation internship. A final-year student at the University of Applied Sciences Utrecht, Koen is conducting research focused on improving the efficiency of combustion engines. The aim is to explore innovative ways to reduce energy losses and optimise fuel consumption, contributing to more sustainable and efficient engine technologies.

As well as being an exciting opportunity for Koen to gain hands-on experience, this project also supports MarQuip’s broader commitment to advancing cleaner and more efficient power systems. “While researching innovative methods to make yachts more sustainable I am also gaining valuable experience working alongside experts in the yacht industry,” says Koen, who started with us in September. “In my spare time I enjoy working on and riding old-timer motorcycles and am an active member of a rowing association.”
