Launched in 2018, the 76.75-metre superyacht Go has won various awards and has an impressive range of 5,500 nm. After seven years at sea, cracks were identified in the exhaust systems connected to the 3516C main engines. As Go’s chief engineer Lee Shaw explains, MarQuip devised the perfect solution while offering clear communication and a high standard of work.
How did MarQuip address the problem, Lee?
The cracks in the exhaust system were causing gas to leak into the engine room. This was obviously a major concern from both a safety and operational standpoint. MarQuip’s replacement solution was installed in Port Adriano in Mallorca and was exactly what was needed. The new exhaust systems are of high quality and clearly built to handle the operational demands of our vessel.
And everything is working smoothly now?
Yes, our new exhausts have performed flawlessly and the engine room environment is now safe and operating exactly how it should. Overall, everything has been running very well since the installation. The key benefits for us as the crew of Go include improved safety, elimination of exhaust leaks and renewed confidence in the reliability of our main engines. The installation also reduced the need for ongoing monitoring and ended any concerns we had about this issue.
What was it like to work with the MarQuip team?
It was a smooth and professional experience with clear communication throughout the process. The engineers were responsive and efficient, particularly during the installation phase. Their technical knowledge and ability to carry out work to a high standard were evident at all times.
Would you advise anyone in a similar situation to call MarQuip?
Yes, I would certainly recommend MarQuip to other yacht owners, captains and engineers. Its ability to deliver a reliable solution to a critical challenge, combined with strong support and workmanship, makes MarQuip a trusted partner.
