Introducing the world’s most compact heat recovery system

It’s always satisfying when years of experience join forces with R&D expertise to create an innovative new product which meets specific market needs. That’s certainly the case with our brand-new Exhaust Heat Exchanger, a custom-designed heat recovery system offering you a doubling in energy efficiency.

While the superyacht sector develops new engines and fuel technologies to meet the need to go green, conventional engines will stay the main propulsion source for the next decade. “These engines have a low efficiency of around 30% with most of the power converted into heat via exhaust gases,” says project engineer Wiebe Voorneveld. “By adding a heat recovery system to the exhaust, we’re able to boost efficiency levels to 60%, doubling the power coming out of the same engine.”

Most heat recovery systems are bulky and installed in parallel with the exhaust to ensure liquids don’t boil and damage the system when heat from the exchanger is not being used. These exchangers have their own hot valves to re-route exhaust gases through the bypass.

“Developed with our partners Kelvion GmbH and Seable&Co, MarQuip’s Exhaust Heat Exchanger has no bypass or hot valves,” adds Wiebe. “The design guarantees cooling over the exchanger without the need for warm water thanks to the combination of our cooling back-up system and wet exhaust.

“The Exhaust Heat Exchanger has its own control system. Less heat is recovered when starting the engines to ensure only minimal condensation forms with dry-stack systems. Having diesels that are twice as efficient will give you an edge over your competitors, save on fuel and reduce your environmental footprint.”

Each Exhaust Heat Exchanger can be custom designed to fit inside every engine room. Contact us today to explore how we might install this impressive new system on your superyacht.
